In 2010, owner/creator Emma Moyer was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. After graduating from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, she realized her daily medication was only a band-aid to her health. Through the use of fermented foods, she started loving her "gut" and was off medication by 2014.

Initially , Emma found fermented foods to be hard to stomach (she loves them all now). Water kefir, on the other hand, quickly grew to be her favorite afternoon mocktail. Even her picky, young daughters enjoy a probiotic-rich glass each day!

Water Kefir is a fermented water beverage, much like a probiotic soda. It is made from water kefir grains (not related to wheat), which are beneficial bacteria and yeast existing in a symbiotic relationship. Depending on the batch, there can be upwards of 40 different strains of helpful bacteria in these kefirs. Brewed Well's water kefirs are each individually made from the Mother Grains.

Water kefir differs from kombucha. Kombucha is brewed from tea, has more acetic acid as a by-product (more vinegary taste) and less probiotics. It does contain a vast array of digestive enzymes. Water kefir is brewed from water, has a larger bacterial spectrum (higher probiotic count) and a sweeter taste.

Gut health revolves around the principal of delivering a VARIETY of beneficial microbes to your digestive tract. While probiotic supplements can be great additions to a diet, they lack the VARIETY of fermented foods. Eating or drinking natural sources of these beneficial microbes can help lay the foundation to your health!
