Windshield time

Why We Choose to Travel for Our Heritage Pork USDA processing.
At Bear Ridge Farm, we believe that raising exceptional heritage pork is only part of the process. What happens after our hogs leave the farm matters just as much.
We put a tremendous amount of time, care, and pride into raising our heritage hogs. From the breeds we choose to the way we care for them, we want every step of the journey to reflect the standards we have set for Bear Ridge Farm.
That is why, when it comes to processing our pork, we choose to make the 2½-hour drive to Piedmont Custom Meats in North Carolina.
We have tried using a processor closer to home, hoping that keeping things local would make the most sense for our farm and our customers. Unfortunately, we were not satisfied with the consistency and finished product we were looking for.
For us, the answer wasn't simply to find another processor nearby. It was to find the processor we could trust with something we have worked so hard to produce.
That processor is Piedmont Custom Meats.
Consistency Matters
When you purchase Bear Ridge Farm pork, we want you to know exactly what to expect.
Piedmont Custom Meats gives us the consistency we need in flavoring, packaging, labeling, and weights. Those details may seem small, but they make a tremendous difference when you're trying to provide a dependable product to your customers.
Our customers deserve to open a package of Bear Ridge pork and know that the same care went into that product as the last one they purchased.
We would rather spend the extra time on the road knowing that our pork is in hands we trust.
Piedmont Custom Meats understands what we're trying to accomplish with our heritage pork. They help us take what we have raised here at Bear Ridge Farm and turn it into a finished product that we're proud to put our name on.
From the cut and weight to the seasoning, packaging, and labeling, their work helps take our product to the next level for our customers.
It's About Our Name on the Package
At the end of the day, there is one name on that package: Bear Ridge Farm.
That means we have a responsibility to make sure everything bearing our name represents the standards we believe in.
And most importantly, we believe in trusting our heritage pork to the people who have shown us that they care about the finished product as much as we do.
At Bear Ridge Farm, we don't just want to raise good pork. We want to provide our customers with a product we're genuinely proud to put our name on—and Piedmont Custom Meats helps us do exactly that.

Hello, We Are Bear Ridge!

Shawn & Amy Burton Bear Ridge Farm VA LLC Keysville, VA Bear Ridge

Bear Ridge Farm began with a simple belief: there is value in doing things the way they were done before everything became about speed, convenience and cutting corners.
We are Shawn and Amy Burton, owners of Bear Ridge Farm VA LLC in Keysville, Virginia. Our farm is more than a business to us, it is a way of life, a connection to our families and a commitment to preserving the values we were raised with.
The name "Bear Ridge "actually came from a simple moment that we will never forget. One day, while Shawn and I were fishing together in a boat on our pound, Shawn suddenly said, "Look there," and pointed toward the ridge. He asked, "See that bear up there on the ridge?" I was the largest black bear that either of us had ever seen.
That moment stuck with us. Looking toward the ridge, surrounded by the land that would become such an important part of our lives, the name just seemed to fit.
Bear Ridge Farm....
Shawn grew up with dairy farming roots in Western New York, while Amy's roots run deep in the Appalachian Mountains of Western Virginia. Both of us were raised with an appreciation for hard work, family, faith and knowing where your food comes from.
Those lessons of our youth became the foundation of Bear Ridge Farm.
Today, we raise heritage breed hosgs including Berkshire, Hampshire and Yourshire, using pasture-based and sustainable farming practices. We believe animals should be given room to live naturally, on the dirt, with care and respect. We focus on producing wholesome premium food while being good stewars of the land that God has entrusted us with.
We farm much like our ancestors did, working with the land rather than against it, raising animals with care, taking pride in a hard days work knowing the value of a hand shakeand that your word means everything.
Bear Ridge Farm is about more than pork and chicken. It is about family. It is about faith. It is about freedom. We may be a small farm, but we believe small farms can make a big difference.
From our family to yours, thank you for supporting our farm, supporting our dream, supporting our small business and for believing in what we do. Thank you for helping us keep the traditions of yesterday alive for tomorrow.....
